Thursday, Feb 11th.
The winds are finally settling down and it has been decided that Friday is the day! We will head out of Key West Friday afternoon for an overnight voyage to Marina Hemingway in Cuba. The task ahead of us was to get to Key West to meet the two boats we will travel with. The trip to Key West was uneventful. We like uneventful!!! We traveled up the bight and into the mooring field. It was a bit windy but I was able to put Tom right on the ball the first try and hold Laughter there until he caught the ball and tied us to it. The wind picked up in the evening so we bounced around a bit but no worries, we were secure. Thursday we headed into Key West on the dinghy. We walked around, did some window shopping and picked up a couple of boat items at West Marine outlet. We all met up at Sloppy Joe's for a drink with the intention to move on to a place we had just heard about. That never happened. It was Put-In Bay weekend at Sloppy Joe's. Put-In-Bay is actually located in Ohio. It is famous for its wild boating parties. One of these days I hope to visit there! Pat Dailey is a well known singer among boaters from the Midwest and especially Ohio. He apparently started coming to Sloppy Joe's once a year to play and has now been coming for 15+ years. Thus the Put-In-Bay weekend celebration at Sloppy Joe's. We were pretty excited to see him in person and I was in awe when he came on stage. The bar was packed and half of them had come down from Ohio just to see him play. As he sang they swayed singing along without missing a word or beat. It was like being at a jimmy Buffet concert. Our trip back to the boat in the dark, about 10pm, was a bit of an adventure. It was windy, wet, cool and pitch black. Tom was sure he knew exactly where the boat was. NOT!!!
We drove around in a circle for about 10 minutes. I finally spotted the blue lights in the aft deck window. They do come in handy!
Naval ships in Key West
A very nice Sunset in the mooring field
Evidently our boat was next to the take off and landing path for the sightseeing seaplane
Love cookies! So hard to resist but I did
A comedy song writing/singing pair that play almost every night at Sloppy Joes
They were funny but did get a little raw for me at times.
