The weather report indicated that the winds would start to slacken after 10:00am and the seas would calm down to two footers so we threw off the lines and headed North to round the corner of Stirrup Cay then head South to Frozen Cay the planned anchorage for the night. A little bumpy but not bad at the start. Unfortunately it never improved, in fact once we started rounding the corner the waves increased, two to fours with a lot more fours than twos. We bounced hard, then rolled up and down then bounced again. Effortlessly would not be a word I would use to describe my moving about the fly bridge or my attempts to go down to the galley. We ate peanut butter and crackers for lunch as I was not going to attempt to open the fridge and if anyone were watching they would swear I had been drinking all morning as I tried to move about without hurting myself. Poor Peanut was in boater stance even while lying on the floor or bench, her legs spread wide and feet trying to clutch what was beneath her to prevent sliding. We were traveling with friends we made in Great Harbour. At one point we considered stopping earlier but decided we were already shook up so go for the original plan. We arrived at the anchorage at Frozen Cay about 3pm It was much calmer in the anchorage so we thought we would be able to clean up what fell over, and rest. This held true until about 10pm. The winds suddenly kicked up and the current rocked us hard from side to side. So much for sleep!
Passing up and around Great and Little Stirrup Cay was very interesting. They are owned by cruise lines and there were two cruise ships anchored. One at each. Small huts had been built on the beach and from what we understand the sales of shirts and bags is very lucrative. We could see the beaches lined with people in chairs and in the water. There were also boats passing back and forth between the beach and cruise ship. I'm sure the people on shore were pointing at us as we bounced by.
Peanuts sad face and boat stance!
Find Great Harbour Cay then you can see how we went North around the point of Great Stirrup and back down to anchor at Frozen Cay near the bottom.
