There is definitely not a shortage of activities at the marina. Add to that some sight seeing via bike, lunch with new friends at the Beach Bar and nearly a week has gone by. We spent the morning actually getting some work done on the boat as Thursday would be here before you knew it. Tom prepared to change the oil and I did some pre-cooking while we were hooked up to electricity. Cooking the meat now then freezing it makes it easier to prepare the meal on the hook. The smell of bacon cooking brought a lot of comments by those who passed by. After lunch we took a dingy ride into the bay near the settlement. We found a canal with some very nice homes but couldn't really get around the bay area that leads up to the settlement. The combination of low tied and skinny water made it difficult to maneuver around unknown areas.
Tuesday evening was a sunset drink and drift activity. At 5pm everyone who wanted to participate met out in the open area with their favorite drink, and camera in their dingy. Once we were all together out in the little bay near the entrance to the marina we rafted off each other. The next two hours were spent chatting, taking pictures and watching the sunset. Every so often the person at each end and in the middle had to start their engines and move us back away from shore. A feat when you have 15+ dinks tied together.
Wednesday;
Today we filled up with fresh water, Tom finished his engine checks and we took a bike ride up to see the old "Sugar Loaf Lodge" built by the Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. This was built on a golf course and was the playground for friends like Judy Garland, Lauran Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley MacClain and Angie Dickenson. It is now abandoned and in severe disrepair. We carefully climbed the stairs and walked around imagining how elegant it must have looked in its day. Later in the day we found out that Bridget Bardot owned a house on the island which is still being used. This evening we played Patonque. A game based on the same principal as bocce ball. In this game the balls are much smaller and metal.
