Frozen Cay to Rose Island

Friday, March 6th 2015

Famous last words.  Today was supposed to be a better day on the water!  I was really prepared this time. Everything that could fall, roll, or tip was already down. I didn't take any projects to do while on the fly bridge because I figured I would be busy holding on again. As it turned out today was a bit better. The waves had calmed a little and we at least were headed straight into the two to threes instead of experiencing the washing machine effect of yesterday. I even made wraps for lunch without issue!  But what the heck, the sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky and it was warm! Why ask for anything else, although calm seas would be a bonus!!!!  Today was about a five hour run with a lot more action. A cruise ship crossed the bow of our buddy boat ( who was leading) on her way to Nassau, and boats of every size were coming and going to Nassau. One of the mega yachts passed us on our port side and on her approach to our buddy boat started angling in at the bow of their boat. Don kept called them on the radio asking what their intentions were. They finally answered indicating they made a course correction and yes they were crossing in front. Now if they would have passed us both on our port sides there would have been no need to cross. We all decided the mega yacht was probably on auto pilot and the captain down in the galley eating breakfast.
Watching Atlantis and other resorts come into view as we neared Nassau was pretty cool.  As we passed by to the neighboring Rose Island it looked like a bustling city of cruise ships, and tall buildings.  Although part of us thought it would be great to motor into Nassau, we decided the boat traffic this close to the weekend would not be fun.
The anchorage at Rose Island had a very narrow approach. That coupled with 7ft water levels looking like 3ft because of the clarity made me a little nervous. There were already six or seven boats anchored up close for protection so we had to hang back a little in an area that had a little more surge issues but it really wasn't to bad a night. Soon after we anchored two more sailboats that we new from Great Harbour came in and we enjoyed a nice happy hour and had a great laugh as the guys displayed their conch blowing skills at sunset.
Happy Hour on Laughter with one with the wind, Sun Storm and Charm

                                                                           They tried!

I have drawn a line from the far upper left hand corner to our anchorage at Rose Island
