Most evenings were spent relaxing after a hard days work but we did splurge to check out two of the local Fish Camps. Whiteys was our first choice and it was definitely a treat. It was a really big place on the river with lots of river atmosphere. When the music started the regulars poured in and the people watching was worth the price of admission. Admission was free. We stayed till almost midnight. Did I dance? You betcha! Swamp Onion and tail made up our meal, Gator tail that is. I have had gator before and it is a little chewy but pretty tasty. The Swamp onion was an onion blossom with Cajun spices. Yummy.
A boat neighbor told us about Clarks as a must visit. The sign down the street from the restaurant stated that it is one of the top reasons to visit Jacksonville. The taxidermy in this restaurant was unbelievable. Stuffed animals were everywhere including the ceiling and rafters. They even have a very large tank with a live gator. Pretty cool place. We enjoyed two appentizers here as well. An onion loaf and mahi basket. No music on a Sunday night though.
Creative driftwood at the entrance
Driftwood fish on the outside walls
The gators home inside the restaurant
The sinks in the ladies bathroom
sorry this is sideways but it shows all the exotic appetizers on the menu
